I am writing in behalf of my mother, Margaret Van Alstine (Lack). I was fourtante enough to make a one time visit to her hometown of Rushden in 1985 (I was seventeen then). I hope to make another trip with my husband Patrick. We (both mom and I) went through the guestbook and she has picked up on a few names from her childhood. She went to Rushden Secondary School back in the late 40's and has married a American and moved to America in 1955. She is now living in Carter Lake Iowa which is not too far from Omaha Nebraska. For those wishing to drop her a line, can do so in care of my email address kristiandpat@home.com. We all love to hear from you!!

Hello to all! My name is Lisa. My Mother Ann, was born and raised in Rushden and lived there until she met my Dad who was stationed in Chelveston in the mid 50's. They lived in Rushden for about a year after they married and then moved to my Dad's home , America. After about 4 years they decided to move back to England and lived there for 7 years. My grandparents were Frank and Vera Travill who later moved to America in the 70's. My Mother attended Rushden Secondary Modern and I went to South End. We would love to hear from anyone who might remember us. I can be contacted at sheeshamom@aol.com

As a child I spent several summer holiday's in Rushden at the home of my grandparents, Rosemary and Arthur Lack. My mother, Vera, was raised in Rushden. I still have family in the area. I'd love to return to Rushden someday with my husband. I wish we had a Peter Crisp in the US!

Hello Kevin I like the pub section brings back alot of memories. I sent you e-mail. I wonder if anyone in Rushden especially anyone who used to go to the Catholic club remembers a Joan Hyacynth last name may not be spelt right. She played the piano and could really sing. She and the family used to live a few doors from the police station in Tollbar, Rushden side. Thanks Rose

Great site - you'll give Rushden a good name if you're not careful! I'd love to hear from anyone who was at Wellingborough Grammar between 67 and 74 and particularly anyone who might remember any of the bits of my misspent youth that I've forgotten...I used to live in Caldecott (near Chelveston), and remember the early morning commuting on the old United Counties double deckers on the 404 service via Lightstrung ... and everything we got up to ...

Great web site, love the pictures! I am trying to trace my ancestors. My great-great grandfather Bert Cook was born in Rushden in 1883. His parents were George Cook and Harriet Day Cook. I believe that Bert and a brother George came to the U.S. with his wife Nellie Palmer Cook and son George Roy Cook.I'm hoping that there are descendants of the Cooks, Days, or Palmers that could give me more family history info.I hope to visit this lovely town someday. Bert settled in Cleveland, Ohio and must have missed Rushden!

Hello Kevin, Thanks so much for you answere concerning my mum and the legion. I listed my e-mail not known because I don't know which one my husband has me listed on. The rose@cycleed.com is out of order due to prodigy have problems here in Oklahoma, I can send mail but not receive any. so the address you receive could you please post it for me in the guest book for me. I hope I will get it and remember so I don't have this happen to me again, how frustrating. Once again thanks for a super job, a labour of love is very satisfying but alot of work and time consuming. I see my husband designing and taking care of flyers for other websites advertising upcoming events which is for charities. Being mostly motorcycle events and camping trips. Usually these events are Harley Davidson clubs. So I admire you for taking on such a terrific job for a alot of out of towners who love their hometown and people in it, THANKS, Rose

Hello to all Chapmans in Rushden. I'd love to get in contact with any of you. Perhaps you could help me. My Chapman ancestors were originally from Rushden and came to live in America in about 1870 or 1871. I have traced the information to my great-great grandfather, but am trying to find information on his parents, descendants or other family members. Here is information about my Chapman ancestor: William Chapman, born about 1824 in Rusden, Northampton, England. He married Ann Denton (born Nov 1, 1829 in Rushden). William Chapman and Ann Denton were married in Wellingborough on Apr 10, 1849. Their son Joseph Chapman (born Feb 18, 1852 in Wellingborough) came to the United States about 1870 or 1871 and married Caroline Coshell.

Does this sound familiar to anyone living in Rushden? Even if it doesn't, I'd very much like to have contact with other Chapmans living in the area (to see if there is a connection).

Thanks! Bryan Chapman

Great site - especially for newcomers to the town.I have lived here for 2 1/2 years now and I had no idea there was so much going on! Anyway - I am a member of the newly formed Rushden Mums Social Club. We would love you to come and join us. So, if you are a Mum with children under 11 and would like a night out once a month - come along. We meet on the first Thursday of every month at the Park Road Methodist Church Hall. (Griffiths Street entrance). Meetings start at 7.30pm. Usually have a speaker/demonstration. Great way to make new friends.

I also attended Rushden Secondary Modern, I left England in 1968 to come to America, I also married a GI, I now live in Oklahoma. I came home to Rushden often when mum and dad lived at the Hedges, last time being 6yrs ago when we laid my dads ashes to rest at the Baptist church top end of Rushden near where my nan lived in South Terrace. My brother Tom lives in Halifax, and my mum lives in St Thomas Exeter. I would love to hear from old friends. Thanks a million for a great site Rose Weber

I'ts so nice to read news about Rushden and visit the guest book. Well done! I've lived in the U.S. since 1969 and have visited several times [last was 1997]. My brothers Ray & Eric [postman] still live there. I lived in YELDEN in the early fifties, worked at the old U.S. NCO club there and later at Alconbury. My son, Paul, lives in the same town as me, which is close to Kansas City, MO. I still follow Man.Utd. and love my Kansas City Royals [baseball team] and the Kansas City Chiefs [football].

Dear Sir,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems accessing information from the Rushden-Northants Business Directory. The directory uses drop-down menus to access the different category headings. These menus utilise Java Scripts which I suspect that the Opera browser does not support. I therefore regret that you may not be able to access the directory unless you load a different, more popular browser. If there was any particular information on a local business that you required, please let me know the nature of your enquiry, type of business or service etc., and I will try to help you.

Regards,

Kevin Franklin - Webmaster

Being the Evening Telegraph correspondent for Rushden I hope that I can help any former Rushdenites locate friends and family through the Town Talk column I write for the paper. It is quite obvious that many people retain an important link to the town from anywhere in the world by looking through this Rushden website. All associated with the town I am sure would wish Kevin and his team best wishes and congratulations in providing a very user friendly design for people worldwide. Looking through the entries it is a format that is obviously working! Rushden is a town well worth promoting as the many comments on this page prove...Kevin, Keep up the good work and keep updating!

Great site, I really enjoyed it. I was in the Rushden area in 1997 and just loved it, it is so beautiful and I hope to be able to come back to the area. I am working on on my family history and the "NEGUS" family came from the Rushden, Higham Ferrers, Dean, Swineshead, Shelton areas in the 1500 and 1600's and I am trying to find out anything and everything I can about the area back then, If anyone knows of any interesting reading or web sites that tell of the area at that time frame please let me know. Happy New Year to everyone!

Hi Kevin, I was just looking at, and enjoying the photos of "home", I too remember the Birch buses, I traveled to Bedford and London on them many times as a kid in the fifties and sixties, you said you remembered them too as a kid, do you remember that they had to go up Washbrook Rd. because they were taller than United Counties, and couldn't get under the railway bridge near the old Queen Victoria.

Would like to hear from any Rushdenites that remember me....I was married to a "yank" onm September 4, 1954 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Came to the States in 1956. We are still together and had four children and have eight grandchildren. We are now settled in Las Vegas, Nevada, and have been here since 1968. Sister Pamela lives in San Antonio, Texas, but she is presently in Rushden on vacation. . Brother Peter lives in South Penrith, Sydney, Australia....he is presently helping out with the Olympics and is supervisor of the equestrian events. My niece, Pam's youngest girl, sent us the website and I have been forwarding it on to Rushdenites I know. that are online. We see Enid Rockingham from time to time when she is in town, Marian Swingler came to visit us once, so did Rosie Handshaw, who now lives in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Love this site....

Hello everyone in Rushden, it is really great to see all who have "signed" in. I left England in 1959, and now live in So. California. Went to South End School, then on the the Intermediate School on Hayway St (think that is the name of the Street) If anyone went to that school in the early 40's, Miss Langdon was the French, Geography and History teacher, and Mr. Hewitt was the headmaster. Good 'ole days!! I am in contact with quite a few of the girls over in the U.S. i.e. Pam Loveday, Joan Loveday. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Audrey Cahill, would like to contact her, our boys played together, and went stock-car racing together. Keep up the good work Kevin. It is great to hear about our home town.

Absolutely excellent! I've been in a few times, but never said how good it was- sorry ! You deserve a pat on the back... this is a page we can really be proud of Kevin.

How can we get more people to know about it i wonder...there must be loads of people out there who haven't discovered the site.

This is a great idea to promote our local area and businesses. Rushden has a lot to offer and it is good that this can be seen in these web pages

As other guests have said, this looks like a very useful site. I think it has loads of potential for keeping folk in touch with the many things that are happening in Rushden, and for building more of a feeling of community spirit.

Have just discovered the website and enjoyed the carnival photos. Look forward to seeing the site grow in the future. It certainly has great potential. Pam Mellor - Brown Owl, 2nd Rushden St. Mary's Brownies
